The U.S. Library of Congress is the world's largest library with a collection of over 160 million books, poems, songs, movies, magazines, newspapers, and other works. The main building, a Beaux-Arts library, was opened on Capitol Hill in 1897 and renamed the Thomas Jefferson Building in 1980 to honor the third president, who was one of the most literate men of his time and sold over six thousand books to the library in 1815 to replace books lost in the War of 1812. I am not sure if even President Jefferson could have read the complete collection of the Library of Congress in his 83-year lifetime.
