Description
Combining speed, stealth, electronics, and powerful weapons, the Lockheed-Martin F-22 Raptor is probably the most advanced fighter plane currently in military service. That does not mean it is the best, though, as it is too expensive to be the U.S. Air Force's standard fighter, and its current targets (ISIS terrorists in the Middle East) are not what it was built to fight. The advanced Russian and Chinese jets have run into their own problems, leaving the Raptor in a league of its own.

A Raptor is on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force (Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio). It is currently mounted in front of the Korean War gallery until the fourth building is opened, after which it may be moved to the modern warfare gallery. The Raptor has made at least two appearances in pop culture: as Starscream the Decepticon in Michael Bay's Transformers movie series, and as Mobius 1's plane in the NAMCO Ace Combat video games.
