SNCF ex PLM boxcar J-57121 was the Maryland car in the the “Merci Train” organized by France to thank America for its aid after World War 2. After the train reached the USA, the Maryland car was acquired by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1949, from whom it was donated to the B&O Railroad Museum. Like many traditional European freight cars, it has buffer-and-chain couplers and a brakeman’s cabin. For the Merci Train, it was decorated with the coats of arms of French provinces.
