Description SS Chrysopolis was a paddle steamer built by John Gunder North in 1860 to run between San Francisco and Sacramento.  At that time, it was the fastest ship on the Sacramento River, and could carry 1000 passengers and 700 tons of cargo at almost 20 knots.  In 1875, it was rebuilt as the San Francisco Bay ferry SS Oakland, which was 80 years old when it was destroyed by fire in 1940.  This model of SS Chrysopolis is on display at the Sacramento History Museum.
