During World War 2, the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea (based in China) planned to create an air force to complement the Korean Liberation Army, and pilots began training with Standard J-1 biplanes, but Japan surrendered in 1945 and began withdrawing from Korea before the KLA air force could enter combat.
