Replica of an armored and well-armed turtle ship (geobukseon) typical of the Joseon navy under Admiral Yi Sunsin, who used turtle ships so effectively in his campaign to expel the Japanese invaders in the late 16th century Imjin War. When I was an English teacher in Korea, several of my students called the turtle ship their favorite Korean invention and Admiral Yi their favorite historical figure.
