Model of a U.S. Air Force McDonnell XF-85 Goblin, the experimental bomber-launched parasite escort fighter of the early Cold War, at the National Museum of Transportation in St. Louis, Missouri. Problems that arose in testing, as well as improvements in aerial refueling of conventional fighters, led to the USAF cancelling the project and donating both prototypes to museums. Since McDonnell was based in St. Louis, the company is well represented in the NMoT's aviation gallery.
