Description In 1959, Leyland Motors began testing the FV4201 Chieftain MBT (Main Battle Tank), which was also built by Vickers, to replace the Centurion and Conqueror tanks.  When it entered service with the British Army in 1966, it was the world's most powerful army tank thanks to its 120mm rifled gun and thick armor.  Unlike its predecessors, it carried an NBC (nuclear, biological, and chemical) protection system in case the Soviet Union decided to use tactical nukes or other superweapons.  The Vickers Chieftain prototype, which was equipped with a 1000hp engine instead of the original 750hp Leyland engine, is parked outside the Yorkshire Air Museum at RAF Elvington, where it was donated in 2002.  It is still operable, but is not easily accessible by the public, as some internal components are still military secrets.
