Description
As my friend drove me from Liverpool to Crosby Beach, I looked out the window of her car and saw a diesel locomotive parked on a plaza at the corner of A55 (Derby Road) and Bankhall Street in Bootle. After doing some research, I found it was Merseyside Development Corporation standard-gauge diesel shunter No. 224347, which was built by Ruston in 1945 as a 48DS. It is now displayed with the name The Atlantic Avenue 1998, perhaps a reference to the year it was installed at this site.
