Description It's about that time again.... time for me to take another pass at UFO's iconic Lt. Ellis. The main change this time is the hair, giving it a go with 3Dream's Zelene Hair (www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/ze… . The base uniform is Epithumia's for the DAZ V4 Body Suit www.sharecg.com/v/37288/browse… . The outfits details come from JoEtzold's SHADO Uniforms for V4 set www.sharecg.com/v/42781/browse… . Thanks to the great talent who made the raw materials possible.

I thought this chick was the sexiest thing going back in the day. And that wig just caps it off (pun intended). Nice.

The show actually holds up fairly well compared to Gerry Anderson's other efforts. And it's got style out the whazoo!

Ya know, I think the Japanese got their idea for sexsy women with oddly colored hair from UFO.

I've often wondered about that. UFO is really big in Japan.

I still don't get the purple wigs.

I know all about the reconned "radiation protection wig", but I still don't get it.

Awesome image, BTW.

(I won't do the "I'm not worthy" bit as someone else did a couple of images ago, but you know none of us are.  )

Purple wigs? Bottom line: they looked neat
It's part of the lunar female uniform... and it also (insert pseudo scientific excuse here).

Because Sylvia Anderson liked wigs?

Yes.  She figured if hats can be part of a standard uniform, then maybe in the future people might also use wigs as well.

I've always heard that the wig was essentially a static-control measure to keep from possibly creating a random signal in the equipment.

BondoFox In reply to Lictre [2019-05-28 18:22:36 +0000 UTC]

Gerry Anderson had a very firm belief that one day, military uniforms would include wigs, matching wigs that would keep everyone looking "uniform".  Silly idea that of course was never picked up in real life.  In the Japanese Fugitive Alien series the Wolf Raiders wore wigs as part of their uniform.

Well, that gets close to making a little bit more sense.

Not much, just a little bit.

Really? I thought the whole get up was so that, should any one intercept the transmissions, they would think it part of the "Film Company" that Shadow was based under?

Either kind of works, though.

Much cheers to all.

markblloyd In reply to Peebo-Thuhlu [2013-12-29 06:38:37 +0000 UTC]

But they wore the wigs on the moon base too: no need to hide under the film studio there.

Peebo-Thuhlu In reply to markblloyd [2013-12-29 09:10:58 +0000 UTC]

Um, no...it was for when the Moon base and Earth were talking to one another. If any one picked up the Moon base's transmissions as they were beamed to Earth.

Also, I think it was mentioned in one episode, that there was also industry on the Moon. Mining or some such. *Shrug* It has been a while since the series was on the television.

I need to find the DVD box set, but last time I tried, time had not been kind.

I don't just mean the production values or the special effects, but the entire production seems silted and anachronistic.

Part of me thinks it is definitely overdue for a remake.  Then I look at what they did with Captain Scarlet (Uncanny Valley tours R Us!) and I think "maybe not".

There is a UFO remake underway as a film trilogy. Concept art is out there and looks impressive.

Space 2099 is also in the pipeline. It's a reboot just like UFO.

markblloyd In reply to James-Bielby1976 [2014-01-16 11:47:25 +0000 UTC]

With some suitable updates, that could work.

It was funny: on the day the original had the moon breaking away from earth, I had work in another city and had taken a couple of videos with me to watch (ie. VHS - it was 1999!) One of them was Space 1999.

So it was hilarious to play it and the date flashed across: THAT EXACT DATE.

Pure coincidence or subconscious? I think the former. But I phoned my best friend and said "do you know what day it is?!" As it was 11pm at night, she was strangely unimpressed.

Can't imagine why.

Yep, in 2005-2006:

www.imdb.com/title/tt0408377

Think the original series, mocaped CGI, and voice acting of quite variable quality.

The scripts weren't too bad.  The production design was generally excellent, and is the main reason you may want to see it.

Think pretty much the same thing as Anderson did with puppets, but done in CGI.
