Merry Christmas! Heres my gift...A followup piece to the critters art, ON SALE NEXT WEEK in the Jan 2010 issue of PLAY Magazine! 2-page spread here, REAL BIG lol This time featuring the more human mascots also in PRINT in the magazine is a list of all the characters... so if y u want it you gotta pick it up.

...Well, in fairness, characters like Captain Quazar & Spike McFang aren't really related to platformers, either. Then again, Play tends to favor the underdogs, & that's one of the things I love about them! ^_^

It's too bad this must have been conceived by someone born in the late '70s. All of these characters seem to be after the big crash of '83.

No its just really hard to draw Moon Patrol or Table Tennis for two next to Jak and Daxter lol perhaps one day they'll let me render a classic piece, in all its arcade glory.

those aren;t pre-1983 lol and the point of the article is about platforming characters for the consoles lol I'm the last of the arcade buffs out in the media my friend believe me that Dragons Lair pic I did? my idea, I had to push it, if'n Daphne wasn;t the hottest character ever, it wouldn't;ta happened. On the upside I got a Kimberly piece coming sometime which'l have some old school arcade feel to it n__n

tisk tisk, but they are. Pacman was 1980 and Q-bert and Dig Dug were 1982 and Dragon's Lair was at ground zero 1983. 
Sadly, there wasn't an arcade within 100 miles of my hometown that had Space Ace. As of today, I have never played that game.

Ah good times, as a bonus in the new issue they are re-running the first Critters piece cause the orig was printed off a lo-res Jpeg.. I went nutz lol so you get both now in one issue n__n

dang, man. this is quite sick! i would've hated doing flats for this thing..
also, you get 50 points for putting in JOE AND MAC!!!!!!!!! haha.. loved that game.

yeah see that's really where the piece becomes a pain lol it isn't just gathering the ref, laying it out, and drawing it. Then you gotta flat it, then decide on an economical amount of shadows and highlights plus FX in order to get it right. So.. with this there were about 55-60 elements to cover, and that's like at least 3-6 times per character when you add the coloring involved. If I had gone with a real limited palette then yeah I could have cut down the time in half.. but I just loves the colors lol soooooo thats my biggest prob, creating more work for myself... lol the end result is always rewarding tho so I continue onward.. on the upside it was quicker to do this one than the last just cause with the last I ahd figured out which colors work best so I had all the samples already to go when it came time to render... tho committing to like 2-3 hrs of flats just to get started... thats always fun...thx for commenting!

Yeah Boogerman lol sometimes when drawing these guys.. Im like.. I must be the only person whose draw theses characters since the day the game shipped.. prob not with Boogerman but def with characters like Johnny Bazookatone lol
