Description
Fall time.I have been in a hide for a couple of hours. I knew I had some chance to be on the way of some Northern Harriers (Circus cyaneus) on the hunt. Because they were a roost of 8 of those not far from here. This adult female was often here.
So I have spent 5 times about 3 hours hidden in there. Several times they flew a few meters away from me not noticing me at all ! And this one female appeared to be in a magical position and very focused. Just before the last light vanished !

This is simply stunning! I think you have a lot of patience, and certainly a good understanding of your subject, in order to be in the right place, and ready to get the shot.

Thank You !
Yes, the light was going down and I had still to keep a good speed.
And I have noticed with my lens that an aperture of 4 is usually not enough to have a perfect focus, especially in flight, so I prefer let at least 5,6 or more.

Thank you,
You may see some in Bulgaria, it's funny how females are much paler with yellow eyes. Those one have much more reddish paterns.
Thank you again !

You have some great stuff. Wildflife can be hard to photograph.
DA is a good place to display it. You may want to watermark to protect from art theft.
Do you have any of wolves?

Marvelous, just marvelous!
I have tried using blinds but have not had much success. I've even tried leaving them up for several weeks. The birds still seem to notice where the lens is. What do you do to hide well enough?

Thank You very much,
Off course, even in a blind, birds of preys arequite often wise enough to catch there is something wrong.
A good guess for harriers is a recently harvested field, they will come to hunt here first because it becomes suddenly easier to catch preys. For that shot, I was sat in a chair behind a big tire of a big thing to water the fields (whose I do not know the name in english, sorry), with a filet of camouflage on me and my camera.
When hunting, harriers always fly just a few meters over the land and always go against the wind.
A good guess is also to stay in your car on the side of the road, where they like to hunt. But you have to be here in place before they see you, if you move, they will keep away from you.
I hope that answered your question.
I wish you good luck

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't thought about a harvested field. Makes sense, and maybe good for other birds too, if there aren't any hawks around... I like the side of the road suggestion, it's worked for capturing red-winged blackbirds. I tried to catch a hawk while I was doing that but it saw me turn the camera...
I will look for likely locations, thanks for the good luck wish!
