Description The luck Raiden had in MGS2 was pretty damn bad, but at least he was still retaining his humanity.

Reimagined for the next installment of the MGS series, Kojima and Shinkawa have envisoned the man as a shell of his former self with the only remnants of his original body left in the form of his Head and his Spine.

And even then there's Shinkawa's comment about him "coming apart" that just plunges the poor guy's luck down the drain once again.

Seemingly there's no way to say that the character will have a happy life after MGS4, perhaps the only thing that he can carry with himself now is to be part of his hero's last mission.

So much for that MGS2 ending with Rose.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks taking away his humanity for a bunch of insecure macho men was a bad idea. I still like his suit though.

It's all thanks to the whiny American fanboys who bitched about not being able to stare at Snake's ass. Now, Kojima has to do this to shut those people up.

It's sad, really.

They're complaints were sound in the sense that Raiden didn't properly conveyed the same natural charismatic and military motif that Snake held, but I found the whole idea of just stripping the guy's humanity away too be borderline on overkill.

Couldn't they simply turn Raiden into something akin to this:

That's really what we were all asking.

I found his appearance just fine. American gamers are simply too shallow to accept playing as anyone other than a "musclebound meathead with a crew cut".

Well it's hard to imagine that in a series that devotes itself to characters within military environments to be something other than muscle bound meatheads.

And even that is a generalization, for all of his faults Snake is hardly a shallow character at all.

While Raiden's appearance may have us arguing whether or not he fits the bill as the rest of the characters, it still felt unnecessary to bastardize the guy to this degree.

Why couldnยดt he just wear a suit like Olga and Solidus?
Why did he NEED to die?

Doesn't feel right to me.

I doubt he's gonna die. And I didn't mean to imply Snake's shallow...I like him and Raiden equally.

It's people like Duke Nukem and the like that are "shallow".

Well, while keeping someone alive through a head (or an arm) is already being done, the Koj. Report with Shinkawa made it seem like if he doesn't have that much time anymore.

Oh, BTW: Snake shouldn't pass off as a "musclebound meathead" either. He's not hyper-masculine, but rather gritty.

I dunno, that "Just press the action button" wasn't helping his case.

Joking aside, Snake is pretty much a regular guy. He's a bit of a hardass on everyone including himself (I've never seen anyone say they're not a hero as much as he has)

But he's got a sense of humour, honor and isn't entirely out of his environment.
And those sneaking suits of his aren't that bad either.

Y'know, I've had a thought, though...

What if Raiden voluntarily did this, and they can transplant his head and spine back onto his original body?

Eh...I dunno how they can do that one without me rolling my eyes to it.
You know, for all intents and purposes one action has a specific effect in Kojima's writting/directing.

Simply doing it like that begs the question of why he didn't simply wore a suit like the Haven Troopers are doing right now.

Because he can take damage without dying...?

Escalation, if he did it then everyone else would be doing it as well, what should you care if you can pull of a reverse Ghost in the Shell anytime you want?
