Description It was like any regular morning. The birds were chirping, kids running around in the streets, people doing their usual morning business. The breeze was tranquil and in words, soothing. To make the morning perfect would be if the sun wasn't getting blocked by slow moving clouds. But oh well. It was gorgeous outside. Not too hot not too cold. It was just right.

But it was time to go outside the walls. You've only been out only a couple of times for scouting missions. Every time you went out, the Titans weren't the first things to come to your mind. It was how beautiful life is beyond the walls. You grew up with stories that said the outside was a vast wasteland that can't sustain human life, but you thought them wrong. In fact, you believed that the outside can hold life more than behind the walls. There's only one tiny tinny infestation problem...

Titans.

A shit load of Titans.

Speaking of Titans...

You looked up and gasped. Here it comes. A lot faster than previously planned. Yes, you were on bait duty. A shitty job that makes you crap your pants when the stupid things stumble their way towards you. You quickly activated your 3D Maneuver Gear and zipped away from the Titan into the trees. You glanced over your shoulder. "That's right, big guy...keep following me..." You could see the target point straight ahead. Get the big guy there and all hell will be brought down on it. You jumped from tree to tree with your gear, making sure that you were out of the Titan's reach but close enough to keep its interest on you.

You released your grappling hooks from their previous point, ripping pieces of bark along with it. You could feel the wind rushing through your hair. It was like you were flying.

Suddenly your body jerked to the side, slamming you into the next tree. You felt your 3D Maneuver Gear lines tangle on you as you ricochet off the solid truck and continue to hit because of your swinging. Through your pain-filled daze, you saw one of your lines jammed in the gear during withdrawal and wrapped itself around a lone branch. Upside down, you could see the Titan come even closer to you. In panic mode now, you went to reach for your sword but groaned in pain. Your hand was restrained by the crazy coils of thick wire of your gear line, and moving it made the line cut in deeper...which was not pleasant.

'I'm...I'm going to die here...' Your mind told you in fear as the Titan came closer and closer to you. Now it decides to go slow? Maybe because you were running away from it earlier, not dangling from a tree branch. Your eyes shrunk in terror as the Titan came closer and closer to you. In desperation, you thrashed around in your entanglement, no matter how much it hurt you. Tears began to well in your eyes as the gear lines dug deeper into your skin, blood trickling down you.

You felt the line higher up jerk, hearing a clank along with it. You somewhat rose yourself up to see what was going on. "Armin?!"

Armin was above you on the branch, sawing through the gear lines to get you out. "Hang on, (Name)!" Where did he even come from? You should have heard, or saw, him coming. The last you knew, he was with the second strike team. Nowhere near your current location.

You dropped back to being upside down. Your teeth clenched to see that the Titan was almost in reach of you...and now Armin. "Armin...Armin! You've got to go! The Titan's right there!"

"Not until I get you out!"

"But—“

CRASH!

The tree near you came tumbling down, the Titan making an easy path of reach for you. Its mindless eyes locked on you.

Oh no...

You struggled to sit yourself up to be able to see Armin clearly. "Armin...?"

Armin was still sawing and hacking away at your tangled cables. "Almost got it..."

You could feel that he was close getting you down, since you would spring down a couple of inches. Can it be? That you will live to fight the Titans another day? You couldn't believe it. Armin was literally risking his life to save you. Yes, you've great friends with him for years and you watched each other's backs but never in your life has he risked his life for you before. He was really working hard at the lines.

"Okay, I'm almost through...when I finish...I'll catch you before you hit the ground, okay?" Armin said to you. "But you'd be able to survive the drop. Just need be careful where you—“

You screamed when the tree you were dangling from exploded from the push the Titan made on it, casting you down to the shrubbery below. Your lines wrapped around you even more, the pain nearly too much to bear. You gasped to see Armin falling, too. He wasn't doing anything, like he was knocked out at impact. Just falling...

Just like you.

Your vision immediately cut to black when you crashed down below.

When you opened your eyes, all you could see was green. You realized that you were in the in the shrubbery down under where you were. You glanced down to yourself and bit your bottom lip, seeing your 3D Maneuver Gear cables where still wrapped around you, blood welling from under them. But you were able to wiggle under them, unlike before. They were loose. Carefully, and painfully, you removed yourself from the Maneuver Gear lines, and the gear itself since it was basically ruined. You shakily stood up to your feet, stumbling away from the shrubs that cushioned your fall. You head was killing you, buzzing like bees, and so were your limbs.

Wait...

Where's the Titan...?

And more importantly...

Where's the tree you were dangling from? And more importantly importantly...

Where's Armin?

"Armin?" You called out. Nothing answered your voice. You staggered through the rough terrain. There was definitely a struggle here. Maybe the strike team came to the Titan when you failed to appear? Is it possible...?

That they left you behind?

No. They wouldn't. Especially if Armin was with them. He would make sure you were found and helped. But you had a funny feeling that wasn't the case. You vaguely remember that Armin was knocked out by the Titan, same as you. But unlike you, he was closer to the impact. So he couldn't be with the others. After all, he would take you to them. He was hurt. Somewhere. And the group didn't leave you behind. They just...took the Titan to fight elsewhere, is all.

You continued to limp through the lush woodlands around your area, calling Armin's name, hoping for him to answer. You began to wander away from the knocked down trees, not seeing the blonde anywhere in sight. Worry began to eat away at you as you searched. Not seeing a single sign of Armin anywhere. As your eyes scanned the new surroundings, they caught onto an abnormality peeking out from the overgrowth by an intact tree. It looked like some kind of a rose bush. You bent over, wincing at the pain igniting through you, and grabbed the object, nearly yanking it out of the bush. When you finally got your hands on it, your heart skipped a beat.

It was a Recon cloak, red stained on the green fabric.

It was Armin's.

"Armin?!" You yelled towards the overgrowth. Still holding onto the cloak, you semi-stepped over the rose bush, allowing yourself only to get a couple of thorns prick you. You pushed the plants out of your view as you frantically searched the area. You held your breath when you saw a blood trail in the grass and old fallen leaves. And an indent in the grass where the blood was. He was dragging himself. 'He's really hurt...I've got to find him. And soon.' You followed the trail, seeing that he had dragged himself into some overgrowth. You peeled the vines away, the leaves cutting at your fingers. When the revealed next section of forest, you rushed through.

"Armin!" You dropped down beside him and gripped onto his shoulder. You flipped him slowly onto his back. You placed your hand over your mouth, taking a sharp intake of air. Armin's side was completely soaked with blood, the stain was still growing. One of his legs was bending the wrong way, telling you it was broken. His temple was caked in dried blood, his hair sticking to it. That side of his face was raw almost, it was so scratched up. His skin was deathly pale. You slipped your arm under his shoulders, lifting him carefully off the ground, having his limp body lean against you. "Armin...?" You gave him a small, gentle shake. "Come on, Armin...wake up."

His eyes didn’t open. The only thing you got in some way of a response was his head slumping against your chest. You realized he felt like ice in your arms.

Is he…? You were shaking in fear of the worst for your best friend. Tears started to well in your eyes as you examined Armin slowly. You squeezed your eyes shut, feeling the stored tears run down your cheeks. Leaning down, you pressed your forehead against his as sobs began to shake you.  “N-No…no…” You begged in a broken voice, “Armin…Armin, please wake up! Please, open your eyes!” You brought him closer to you, holding him tighter. “Please…”

The only that sounded in the forest was your tears. No birds chirping. No wind howling. No cicadas crying. It was only your sobs that rang through the forest.

You couldn’t believe it. You didn’t want to believe it. It couldn’t be possible. You didn’t even have the chance to tell him. How much you cared about him. How he was the strongest, bravest person you know, no matter what other people would say. He was that to you. No matter what, Armin would always had your back. Even if it was a bad idea, he would support you like a bridge over troubled water. And he would listen to what you had to say, a shoulder to cry on. He was more than your best friend. He was your love. And now…you could never tell him your true feelings.

You jerked slightly, your eyes snapping open when you felt something brush on your cheek.

“(N-Name)…?”

Your eyes met with hazed over blue ones. A large smile formed on your lips. “Armin!”

Armin’s cold, shaking thumb wiped your tears away. “You’re…okay…” His voice was weak and raspy.

You gripped onto his hand, leaning into his palm. “You scared me…I-I thought you were…”

Armin’s eyes slowly widened, realizing what you were going to say. “(Name)…I’m sorry—“

“Don’t be sorry,” you told him in a gentle voice. You wrapped your arms around him. “I’m just so glad you’re alive.” You pulled away from him when you felt him shiver. He was still freezing cold. You returned his cloak and placed it on him like a blanket. “What happened?”

“The Titan knocked…down the tree we were in…” Armin explained between jagged breaths. “I was…thrown farther away than you…and I guess I hit my head against a branch of another tree. I broke…my leg…in the fall…I drug myself over here, thinking that…the Titan wouldn’t find me…”

Your eyebrows furrowed down worryingly when a cough shook him. “You okay?”

He nodded slowly, his coughing calming down. “I’m okay…” he glanced back up to you. “The Titan…didn’t get you, right?”

“No. It didn’t. I fell into the shrubs that you said would cushion my fall if you couldn’t get me in time. I guess I sunk deep enough in them that they hid me from the Titan.”

Armin made a small smile. “Good.”

“I think the squad got to it,” you said. “There was a lot of disturbance on the ground, like there was a fight, when I woke up…but I couldn’t see or find them anywhere.”

“They’ll find us,” Armin said with determination in his voice.

“I know they will…”

Armin said in a quiet voice, “Hey, (Name)?”

“Yes?”

“Why did you want me to leave you dangling in that tree?”

You were shocked by the question, not seeing it coming at all. “Well…I…didn’t want the Titan to get you. I wanted you to…live.”

“I wanted you live, too…” he mumbled. “I followed you. That’s why I knew where you were. I wanted to make sure that the Titans wouldn’t get you.”

“Really?” You asked. “You…followed me…?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Armin’s pale cheeks turned a light shade of red, looking away from you. “I-I…”

“Armin?” You carefully turned his head back facing you. “What’s wrong? You’re getting all red…”

Armin hissed as he tried to sit up, holding onto his side. You helped him, since you still had him in his arms. Your hands didn’t leave his shoulders so he could stay upright, feeling that he was still weak from his injuries. He avoided eye contact with you as he stuttered, “I-I…I-I’ve got something…to tell you.”

“What’s wrong, Armin?” You asked. You fixed his cloak, snapping it back on him to keep it on him so he could warm up.

Armin couldn’t seem to find the words, everything coming out of his mouth just complete stuttered gibberish. His cheeks became redder and redder as he stuttered. It was the only form of color in his skin so it was very easy to see. He made a frustrated growl and cupped your cheeks, pulling you forward.

You’re eyes widened in complete shock when your lips met with Armin’s. He was kissing you! You couldn’t help but flutter your eyes shut and kiss him back. His lips were cold but that didn’t matter at all to you. The kiss was gentle and filled with complete adoration for each other.

Armin slowly pulled away from you, his eyes opening just as slow. Your face still in his hands, he told you in gentle, quiet whisper, “I love you, (Name)…that’s why I followed you. I wouldn’t be able…to live if you died.”

Salty tears of happiness ran down your face. Never in your life had you thought you would hear those words come from Armin.  You said as he wiped your tears away, stroking your cheek, “I…I love you too…for a long time now…I wanted you to leave me because I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if you got killed by one of those Titans.”

Armin smiled at you and pulled you into a hug, brushing his soft, cold lips against your temple. “I will protect you from them as best as I can, (Name)…even if it means I will sacrifice myself in means to let you live. I promise.”

“Same to you…” you murmured.

You and Armin heard the overgrowth rustle, making you both tense up. You gripped onto one of Armin’s swords, ready to protect him. Coming out of the overgrowth came…

“Eren!” You and Armin called.

Eren looked over to you and Armin, a smile growing wide. He yelled over his shoulder, “Guys! I found them!”

You helped Armin stand, letting him lean all his weight against you. He hopped along beside you as you approached Eren, who took Armin away from you. “His leg’s broken. Be careful.”

“You got it.” Eren eyed at Armin’s still red cheeks. “Do you have a fever or something, Armin?”

You giggled. “Not exactly…”

Eren raised an eyebrow at you. Then he looked at Armin then back at you. His pupils widened. He returned his stare at Armin. “Dude! You told her you liked her, did ya?!”

Armin just simply nodded.

“Did you guys…?” Eren wiggled his hips.

“NO!” You and Armin yelled.

You slapped Eren on the backside of the head. “Freaking perv.”
