Beautiful art in very aspect! It is weird yet nice and yet also very tragic and sad to never see Azula able to have her personal defenses down and live and spiritual and emotionally connect with her mother like above.

Azula's a tough person to label. She wasn't pure evil, but she was fire from being a normal and healthy person.

FAR from being a normal and healthy person. Freudian slip much?

Thank you for correcting me. Yes, it happens to me, but fire was at least somewhat appropriate.

Yeah...I thought it was funny that you used fire, since Azula and Ursa are from the Fire Nation and all.

Avatar is American and therefore not anime; it's still a cartoon.Β Β Anyhow, only the creators have an answer for that, and they seem reluctant to share for the time being. Β They did have a meeting between Zuko and Ursa storyboarded for use during the end of the show, but it didn't make the final cut. Β So it's safe to say Ursa is at least alive in some fashion.

Actually anime is "animation" and can apply to any cartoon regardless of country of origin. But I guess in the west anime and cartoon are divided... I get confused sometimes because I call almost everything anime though people don't mind some do. Plz don't be mad, I'm not trying to sound mean or anything. btw, nice Azula pics.

Fire-Lord-Azula In reply to MileniaKitsuvee [2010-06-07 19:03:23 +0000 UTC]
I'm aware of that, but most people tend to use "anime" for the show because they sincerely think it comes from Japan, which is false. Β I've even seen people call the original, English-speaking production a dub of the "original Japanese"! Β It's an American creation, and from my experience, I rarely see American animations being called anime. Β I realize it has to do with the Japanese-influenced animation used in the show, but it's probably easier to just call it a cartoon.
There's nothing to be mad about.Β Β I find that your reference to anime is an exception, at least in the areas I frequent. Β There's nothing at all wrong with it; I just want people to keep in mind that Avatar is American, not Japanese, and the English voices are the originals, not some kind of dub. Β And thanks for the kind words about my Azula pics'!

What? There are people who actually think it's "original Japanese"!? I didn't know that but that's just sad. >.> It's like they think the Americans can't make a good cartoon. I love avatar and it's cool how they use the oriental influences in the cartoon, making it unique to others.
I see, I guess it depends where one lives. Regardless of what I call it I always remind people that it's American made though I don't know much people who like it, most of them hate it. I have a friend that hates it "cuz it imitates anime", she said. .___. My cousin hated it until I made him watch it with me, now he likes it. :9

Delayed response is delayed, and I apologize for that.
Yes, I've come across that sentiment, especially on sites where you can watch full episodes. Β They often list the show as "Avatar, English dub" or similar designations. Β It makes you wonder if the people supplying the episodes have actually watched the show! Β It's a unique American cartoon, clearly utilizing Oriental influences while remaining a Western production... and it does seem that some people find it impossible to believe. Β You're right, it really is sad.
It probably does depend a lot on where one lives, because I've not heard that terminology much. Β Once again, you were never wrong in your original comment; it's a hair-trigger reaction, having seen how many people define anime as strictly Japanese and assign the label to Avatar. Β It's a shame that your friend hates the show because it "imitates anime"...Β Β I do confess that my initial impression of the show was very similar, but I sat down and gave it a chance. Β I'm so thankful I did! Β Your cousin is a prime example -- if people actually watch an episode, they usually come away liking it.
And thanks for the llama badge! Β I'll be returning the favor.

It's ok.
I've never seen it on sites but that's weird. XD
I agree, it's a sad label (and confusing sometimes. lol) and yeah, it's awesome my cousin likes it. ^^ The movie is coming out this week, yay!

Sad...if only Azula learned how much of an uptight, psychotic B***h she was, maybe then she could've had the love she wanted from Ursa.
Ah well, you can't change the past...
