Well, it's a matter of perspective. To you they were a burden, to them you probably were the meaning of their life or something close to that... They couldn't respect your decision any more than a drowning person can respect decisions of a branch. I think they deserve pity, not disdain. And therapy for that abysmal lack of hope for themselves. What do you think?
