"Portrait of a MADAO" - Hasegawa Taizou (Gintama)

Things are progressing at a steady pace with the King Desha cosplay (I've gotten the tunic and cape done already, but I want to finish the belt at least before showing more of it off as I feel it'd be better to post pics of most of the completed outfit) but until I gather more materials I'm just gonna do some other stuff for now. That said, I wanted to practice some more watercolour painting (combined with sketching) as it's a medium I'm not too confident with. I'm focusing on black and white values with my shading mostly, but gradually I'd like to get to actual coloured pieces someday. The slight colour I did use was to create this sort of noir-esque feel with black and white and using the yellowish red/orange to draw your focus to the light of Hasegawa's cigarette and how it contrasts with the rest of the illustration. I wanted to draw some (sadly relatable) underdog characters (it was either Gintama's Hasegawa or Kaiji from Kaiji Ultimate Survivor I had in mind, though I might also do a Kaiji piece as well with the same idea; just gotta find a pose I like that represents aspects of their character and I'll do it) in a cool, noir-esque way so that's how this came about. (You have no idea how tempting it was to draw him in his cardboard suit; I totally should have lmao.)
