Red Oak www.redoakiimissouri.com really isn't a town and, since it is located about a mile north of Route 66, it is kind of stretching it to say it is part of Route 66. But many Route 66 websites and Route 66 guide books recommend that travelers visit this place.

There wasn't much going on while we were there, but then we were there on a week day and not during the regular tourist season.

Many of the buildings can be rented (the church for example) for weddings and other types of gatherings.

Of the many buildings, five of the houses have permanent occupants, so pay attention lest you enter someones house while wandering about.
