Jacksonville, Illinois, September 6, 2022.
I first saw a diner like this when I was on a 2015 Route 66 exploration in Carthage Missouri. I didn’t post any pictures of it because it wasn’t associated with anything vintage 66, but I did admire it’s look. Since then, I’ve seen similar diners in Missouri and Illinois, and I’ve wondered if they were associated with each other or perhaps just copycats.

I’ve finally looked into this more and learned that they are not a chain, rather the buildings were all built by the same company, MODULAR DINERS, INC.
This company can build these little restaurants in various shapes and sizes quickly and at a fairly low price. The building can also be disassembled and moved elsewhere if needed. I don’t know what the economics of that would be, but this building in Jacksonville has been sitting unused since 2012.
Three Star Family Restaurant opened in 2010, moved in 2012 and is currently in Canton Illinois, under the name of “Canton Family Restaurant.
