The word "girlfriend" is interesting to me in relation to women. For older generations, if a woman is talking about her girlfriend(s), she's usually talking about her platonic female friends. Meanwhile, I feel like for my generation and Gen Z, we think of "girlfriend" as being a romantic partner, thus a woman talking about her girlfriend(s) is implying she's sapphic. It's made for some...interesting conversations with my older relatives.I thought I'd draw Odalis and her grandfather, Gus, having a conversation involving this. He's wondering how Odalis' best friend, Candy, is doing. However, in referring to her as Odalis' "girlfriend," she thinks he's implying that the two are dating, so she's clearing up that misconception. He then has to explain to her that he meant the term in a platonic manner. She's a bit embarrassed by it, partly because she knows he doesn't care for the fact that she's bi.
