Sturmboen
Mikayla Turner

The creak of polished leather echoed in the quiet evening as a rider and her horse stole the last few rays of light from the setting sun to work in the round pen. It was still quite warm out, the last vestiges of light only prolonging the warmth that the summer day had given them. School was in full swing for Mikayla's young son, Mark, which meant reworking the schedule around his and her students' school lives. It also left Mikayla with little time to just relax and focus on a single horse at time, though she made sure that every horse was ridden for around a half hour a day- not counting the broodmares out in the pasture, by one of the staff or during lessons.
Sturm had been coming along nicely in the past month or so. He'd made bounds and leaps of progress, going from a untouchable, irritable, and rather combatant stallion, to one more willing to try, curious if not still a bit standoffish. They could do a lot more now. He was tolerant of having his hooves picked up, he accepted the saddle, halter, bridle, and had even become accustomed to boots. He no longer tried to snatch the flag out of the air or trample the blue tarp on the ground to death. He was rather shy of the dogs when they barked, but had come to accept that there was no getting rid of them and they weren't going to hurt him anyways. He even allowed the barn cat to sleep on his back when he was resting. All bets were off it seemed, when it came to buddies.
The stallion was buddy-sour beyond belief. Every time a horse came by he would either try to follow it or challenge it. He had problems settling in a stall for the night- a wall away from his closest companion was one wall too many. Mikayla had caught him trying to open gates- and even succeeding, which meant she just tightened the security of it. She had one too-intelligent-for-his-own-good stallion, so it wasn't a big deal for her to use the more secure locks on the gates. Once she felt more secure in his ability to communicate with her- without exploding or being highly reactive, they would have to address the issue. For now, her focus would be on getting him to yield and turn to light pressure, essentially teaching him to steer while being ridden.

Do I draw sunsets too much? Maybe.
Maybe.

Anyways! More training images for Sturmboen. I know he's already got his required 3 images, but it never hurts to do more and show his progress!
