Description
Training: First Ride

The day was average as any other day, the sky was a bright azure with vague clouds dotting across the atmosphere. Jasper's neck had healed nicely, though Mikayla was reluctant to put any strain on the young stallion, but today was the day. Today was the day they would fly together across the fields! At least, that's what he thought today would be. She'd brought him to one of the larger square pens. It was often used for practicing jumping, but today there was a complete lack of poles and stands. The bushes that scattered around the fences had become overgrown and in need of a good trim. Today would be an important step forward in their partnership. Instead of tacking him up, strapping a sack to the saddle, and clipping him to the lunge line, when she'd brought him to the arena the first thing he'd notice was the lack of the lead line, and the lack of the sack.  A different, darker saddle hung from the rails of the fence. When she put it on his back, he realized it was much lighter than the saddle she's been working him in. The pad also wasn't as colorful as the other one.

His person very carefully tied the reins together and set them against his neck. He stayed as still as possible, though he was so giddy, all he wanted to do was prance around. She put one foot in the silver triangle thing and swung herself quickly over his back. She wasn't as heavy as the large saddle and the sack combined, but her weight did distribute quite differently in comparison. Now they flew, right? Now they became one and raced around the arena, and eventually the hills that surrounded the facilities?

"Walk on" Her voice was soft, but commanding. When she'd said the two very recognizable words, he felt a very slight squeeze to his sides via her legs. Was that how they were going to communicate now? She wouldn't be in front of him anymore, so of course there would a new language to learn!

They spent the next two or so hours working on his development of the language. When the day was done, he was sure there was nothing more he could learn, and the next day they would be off across the countryside. He was wrong. For the next few weeks, they did nothing but practice in the pen. They would move together in a canter, a trot, and a walk. He wanted to run, run for hours with her guiding him from above.

Soon, not now, but soon they would flying. They just weren't flying yet.
