Description
This is another painting (my second pastel painting) I did from the Tom Christopher pastel workshop. The reason this one is in scraps is because it still needs a little more work; there are some finishing touches to add and a couple forms to build up. The photo was taken from my friends when one of them was at a Dude Ranch in Colorado.I didn't want to paint the photo in traditional colors that your mind sees (basically greens) so I kept thinking about what Tom said, and that is "Value is everything". He sometimes doesn't even look at the color he's using, he just finds the right value on the pastels and goes with it. The result he gets is this very beautiful and natural looking expression of landscapes. This one turned out well for me I think. It seems like a natural setting to me even though I painted the tree trunks blue and red! As I said before on the other painting, I recommend taking his workshop-they are very reasonably priced (it's well worth it for what you gain) and very fun to get a lot of feedback and demonstration from a master. If you are interested, look up his site. Also check it out to see his paintings too, he did demos of paintings for the workshop and he cranked them out in just a little over an hour. The skill level is some of the highest professional work I've ever seen. He will soon have a DVD demo available (I work in video production and helped produce the DVD. I'm booked to edit it early 2016) so that will be an option for folks as well who aren't in the midwest.
