I didn't mention this before but pico only becomes a mermaid when he's in saltwater & when the water dries off of him, he will become human again. Anyway, this scene of pico falling was a result of him pounding on the sand, not knowing that it was a secret entrance to a cave that has a deep secret inside of it.
