Description As the first thread of 2020, I decided to participate in Creatuanary, since drawing mythological creatures seems to be something that I really like, in case you haven't noticed.

The descriptions here are the same as those on my IG profile  www.instagram.com/renatodesenh…, as I have always tried to describe everything there both in English and in Brazilian Portuguese, which is my native language.

Day 13 - Any traditional dragon could be a "six-limbed creature" since wings are limbs too, but I wanted to take advantage of a design I already had in mind. This little fellow came from a series of dragons I started making in 2010, around the time of the first "How to Train Your Dragon" movie was released. Since then, there have been more than 200 dragons, including redesigns of HTTYD and Harry Potter's specimens as well.
The idea is that he is a genetically engineered hexapod dragon, whose wings have been retransformed into clawed paws, which eventually fled from its creators to become a monster that haunts the forests of Laos, Southeast Asia, with a preference for human flesh, as well as being able to camouflage like an octopus.
The original design had an Alien's xenomorph tongue too, but I think bringing it back would be a bit much. Maybe extra row of teeth in the roof of the mouth would be enough.

(They might come back here one day. I did not decide yet. But you can see the designs of some of them - including the franchise dragons' redesigns - on my old profile. Here  www.deviantart.com/diamondhead…)

Day 14 - "Hephaestus" was the second mystery creature of the thread. And what a gift it was to be able to draw my favorite Greek god. Like Morrigan a few days ago, this design is part of a long time ago story that has yet to be finished by me.
I took advantage of the status of Olympus' Blacksmith and Lord of the Forge to bring a classic view of him with elements of mine, such as a mechanical leg, which prevents him from limping too much, and the wit of a certain Motörhead singer, with the wart on his face and all that, since he was described as a not-so-handsome guy - I am sorry Lemmy.
Hephaestus was also the symbol of artwork, since he was an artisan god, so I think I can take him as a kind of "patron saint" so to speak. I am very happy with this piece.

Day 15 - "Kapre" is a creature of Phillippine folklore, with a strong and hairy body, who spends most of the day smoking tobacco on top of trees, whose strong smell attracts people to his presence. It is said that he carries a white stone, the size of a quail egg, and that whoever is able to take it out of his hands will be entitled to a wish.
The name "Kapre" apparently comes from the Arabic "kaffir" - something like "non-believer" or "infidel" - a term used to refer to African slaves in the Middle East, which was eventually used by the Spanish to refer to the Negrito peoples from the northern Philippines, as well as Papuan slaves brought by the Portuguese, which shows Kapre's origin in a racist caricature, which is why I chose to make it as less "human" as possible, mixing characteristics of crab-eating macaques, tamaraw buffalos and visayan warty pigs.

Day 16 - "Medusa" was the prompt this time. One of the daughters of the primordial entities Phorcys and Ceto, she is one of the most famous monsters in Greek mythology. The story of Medusa and her sisters is at least tragic, being the most famous version in which Athena cursed her most beautiful priestess after she was raped by Poseidon in her temple - the god of the sea had no punishment, because society is unjust always - transforming her beautiful curls into snakes, her smile into wild boar teeth and her hands in cold, heavy bronze, as well as a look capable of petrifying anyone who saw her in her lair.
My original idea was to do her along her Gorgon sisters, Stheno and Euryale, but it ended up not happening. Because she is the only non-immortal of the three, I thought it was fair for her to have armor, in addition to the tear marks on her face, due to her tragic origin.

Day 17 - "Camahueto" was another creature that I had to research what it was before doing it, belonging to the Chilota folklore as well as the Trauco I did a few days ago. This creature spends the first two decades of its life on land, like a calf with a single horn on its forehead, and then migrates to the sea, where it capsizes vessels with its strength and wrath. On land, it leaves trails of destruction wherever it goes, devouring all the animals that cross its path.
In addition to the bull, I chose to give my Camahueto what its final form would be, with sea lion teeth and a large sperm whale tail, animals found on the coast of Chile. The horn is colorful because it seems to have magical healing qualities, hunted by Mapuche shamans.

Day 18 - Another important mythological figure had space in the thread. The Egyptian goddess "Bastet", easily recognized by her black cat head, which already denotes the ancient Egyptian cult towards felines.
Like the Hephaestus and Morrigan that I did before, this particular design of the goddess comes from my own story line, which involves gods and creatures from the most diverse cultures. I wanted to bring as many elements as possible from the original design of the goddess, as well as my own. I think I was happy with that decision.
