Description One hundred meters away, the security gate’s lasers began flashing yellow warning lights. Her ear implant activated. “Authorization codes requested.” She slowed, having already covered the thirty kilometer distance in seven minutes.
“Transmit codes.”

The alert from her Contractor while she sat in a nondescript Martian bar had been routine but an eyebrow rose when she noted the House of Knorr sponsored the request. Although conglomerates of all types and sizes spanned the Solar System, only seven Houses existed. Their enormous wealth allowed them to build and operate moons. One that housed Knorr’s headquarters as well as manufacturing facilities orbited Jupiter.

On landing, no one greeted her, no meetings would occur, no face-to-face encounters happened. Her implant, however, buzzed with complete directions, codes, payments, and location of a Hyper-bike.

Lasers stopped flashing and she cut the motor as the gates opened to the residential area of Sector 4C. Away from the entertainment centers, nothing stirred or moved at this late hour. She coasted the vehicle to a spot just away from the building’s illuminated entrance, taking a final glance to ensure the scanner screens verified the target in place. “Confirm audio/visual control.” she whispered.
“Confirmed.”

The contractor had been adamant no record of her coming or going could exist. Her implant now controlled every camera and recording device in the area, playing their own archived recordings on a continuous loop until she departed. She ascended the entrance steps.

The building’s security consisted of a night watchman monitoring a bank of cameras without noticing anything amiss. Her implant unlocked the entrance. His eyes widened at the sight of her Katana and side weapon but his hand never reached the alarm button. Too swift for him to prevent, her hand clamped around hs throat preventing any outcry, lifting him from the seat. An open mouth exhaled onto his face. The guard collapsed in an unmoving heap. In a few hours, he would awaken with a mild headache and no memory of what had happened.

As the lift climbed toward the 93rd floor, she wondered if the thought had occurred to the target he had seen his last dawn. Probably not. No one did. But he had done something to warrant her arrival.

She stepped noiselessly into the bedroom where two men slept. His lover did not stir but exhaling gently assured he remained still. A low gulping sound changed the gaseous mix she expelled on the target. He would indeed never see another dawn.

Although the Gallery's models remain the same and assume characters and roles on a rotating basis, their portrayals are 1-off’s and never repeated. It's not a rule. I’ve just never felt the need for a follow-up. But when Shiloh took on the role of a silent guard for a wealthy client in ‘Barred’,

(for those interested: www.deviantart.com/rtesian/art… )

I found the character intriguing enough to break this tradition and explore who she was a bit more deeply.

I still don't know if she's human, a Synth, or a Droid. In this world, Synths are entirely artificial despite their human-like exterior as well as warm-to-the-touch skin and textures. Think of them as advanced, machine-made robots.

Droids, however, are bio-engineered, completely organic, and much more expensive. Behaviorally, Synths and Droids are quite similar but five minutes after encountering a Synth you know they're Synths. Droids, on the other hand, are very difficult to identify.

What is the major difference between Synths and Droids? Synths cannot have sex although reputable plug-ins exist for the oral variety. Droids, since they cannot become pregnant or impregnate, are always very willing, have built-in orgasmic sensations, and are astonishingly adept partners.
