Description
Light awoke turning expecting to see L already awake. He wasn't. It was almost impossible to wake L up Light had tried before only to fail miserably. He could simply conclude that this heavy sleep was to make up for the lack of rest that L usually obtained. L got around five hours of sleep within two days sometimes less, it was a marvel that the man could function at all. Well he could sleep in for a change. It couldn't do him any harm. Light lay in bed for a while counting dots on a painting hanging on the wall. Well he was bored and there was nothing else he could do apart from getting up and literally just dragging L behind him. He quickly discarded that idea. All it would do is give L a carpet burn and wound his dignity at being dragged around in such a manner; this in turn would probably earn Light a kick. So Light continued counting dots in the picture. One hundred and thirteen, one hundred and fourteen, one hundred and fifteen.... He heard a muffled groan coming from the man next to him. He frowned concerned."Ryuuzaki" he said shaking the man's shoulder. No response. "Ryuuzaki" he said again this time a little louder. Nothing. He had thought that this would happen but still once he heard the groan he had reasoned that L may have been starting to come around. Apparently not. He decided to try just one more time. After all third time's the charm or so they say. This time he shuffled over putting his mouth fairly close to L's ear. He knew it was mean and would likely raise his Kira percentage but he was growing tired of counting dots. He looked back at the picture, besides now he'd lost track of where he had stopped counting. Then he shouted into L's ear "L, wake up!". L started rolling over only to find that there was no space left on the bed so inevitably he rolled off the edge. Luckily for Light because he had been closer to L than normal (usually he stayed as far over to the other side of the bed as possible) he didn't follow L in his tumble off of the bed. L looked around him appearing somewhat dazed.
"What am I doing on the floor?" he asked seemingly to himself. Then he looked up seeing Light sitting on the bed looking down at him. Then certain clarity entered his eyes.
"Light-kun the chances of you being Kira may have just risen by about 5%. Now answer me truthfully, did you just push me off of the bed? If so then you are extremely childish"
Light stared at him incredulously "No I can honestly say that I did not push you off of the bed Ryuuzaki".
L stared back at him "Then would you care to explain to me why I am on the floor?"
"You were groaning so I thought you may be about to wake up. When you didn't I was worried. You don't usually make those kinds of noises in your sleep Ryuuzaki, you almost sounded like you where in pain, so I thought I would try to wake you" Light replied softly.
"While I appreciate your concern, Light-kun I was fine there was no need for you to wake me" he paused for a moment "Why are you sitting on my side of the bed if you didn't push me off?"
Light grimaced looking embarrassed. "Well I shouted into your ear. You were so startled that you rolled over and fell out of the bed" Light frowned "Why can't you remember me shouting at you?"
L sat up gnawing on his thumb "I was still asleep, I only woke up when I hit the floor".
"You were still asleep? That doesn't make sense you sat up, your eyes were open!" Light exclaimed.
"There is a period of about a minute in which I appear to be awake but am in fact still asleep" L explained around his thumb. Light blinked. Well that was something else to add to the detectives list of quirks.
Then L asked slowly "You listen to me while I am sleeping?"
"Well sometimes you keep me awake all night clicking away at your laptop, so I only go to sleep when you do"
"If my typing bothers you Light-kun you should have told me" L said quietly.
Light chuckled "Even if I had told you would that have made you stop working? I highly doubt that. You're a workaholic Ryuuzaki, you barely ever sleep. I don't know how you keep yourself going all day long even with all the sugar"
L got up from the floor settling back into his normal slouch he fixed his eyes somewhere over Light's shoulder before replying.
"You know you're right Light-kun that wouldn't have stopped me. Sometimes I feel that you know me far too well"
Light stared at his hands for a minute. The problem was that most of the time he felt he didn't really know L at all. He knew perhaps some of the mask the man wore in the guise of Ryuuzaki but he didn't feel that he was familiar with the real L. This was because L kept most of his emotions hidden, a lot of the time nothing the man was feeling showed through on his face. Or even in his eyes which were meant to be the most expressive part of a person. The eyes are a gateway to the soul. Well not L's. If they were the gateway to his soul then they were well guarded. Light held his cuffed wrist up.
"Will you unlock this so that we can get dressed?" he asked. It had taken a lot of work to convince L to unlock the cuff for even this short amount of time. Light had argued that he was still in the same room so L could keep an eye on him and what could he possibly do without the cuff that he couldn't still do with it on anyway? If anything he was more dangerous with the cuff on as if he chose to he could simply keep his distance and choke L with the length of chain hanging between them. He would never do that because although he felt a bit like strangling L sometimes, god knows nobody managed to get him as worked up as L did, he considered L to be a friend. He admired him for the work he did and besides all of that Light was no killer. Wordlessly L walked around the bed towards him and unlocked the cuff. With that they both went to their respective wardrobes.
Light watched L out of the corner of his eye as the man took the same outfit that he wore out of it every single day. Was there nothing else in his wardrobe? As L started to get undressed Light quickly averted his gaze to regard his own clothing. He would give anything for a shower right about now. But getting L to allow him this luxury was difficult as he was fine with them not wearing the handcuffs for about five minutes especially as it was necessary so that they could select their clothes and put them on while giving each other a small amount of privacy. That was impossible in a bathroom however the chain was long enough that the other could stand outside the door but it did greatly limit their movements. The few times they had tried to do this when Light had reached for something or strayed too far from the door he had inadvertently pulled L into it. L hadn't been pleased. But as far as Light was concerned it was L's fault in the first place if he hadn't been forced to wear the handcuffs that wouldn't have happened.
