I think the background fits him perfectly. Green was an awesome choice of color for him, by the way. It suits his personality. About the background: the swirls of light and dark make it perfect for Riku. Awesome job!

I love how you drew his face, the expression is beautiful. (I especilly like how you drew his lips), and the folds of the clothing were done really well. (And there is no fault to your shading technique)
