This is Alfred, one of the protagonists (They change at some point), and he is asexual. Ruby is too, so let's say a character being asexual is a clue to being a secret protagonist XD

There is really no rhyme or reason for this. Not saying you aren't born with your sexuality, but how you view the world in that regard does somewhat depend on your upbringing/lifestyle.

In Alfred's case, he was just never that interested in dating. No traumatic experiences or over the top past relationships, just an awkward dude who has interacted with few women, and is unable to view anyone as something more than a friend. He will be forming relationships at some point, so him being asexual is something that he will realise later on.
