Ruby is also one of my older Dragon Quest 9 characters and she originally had her hair down but became a Martial Artist class member so feels its easier to fight with her hair tied back. For her gear set up I use the Martial artist based set but I usually use the Dragon Robe and I decided to have her use a Fan as a weapon but I usually use the Staff.
