Description
Coursing River is a level 14 Way of the Open Hand Tabaxi Monk who started life as a slave shipped away from his family and sold to a stern but kind martial arts master far from home. Over time, River took on his master's arts and would eventually become one of his students. As River grew stronger, the other students took note of his strength and a prominent student challenged him and lost. In return, the student's family destroyed the dojo, forcing River to escape with his own life.

He sought life as a mercenary until he found his current party, who as a mercenary group have shaped the power and politics of the empire, including to help choose the new leader who used his position to end slavery and bring in a new regime. After a run-in with a particularly powerful lich with no ability to find or destroy the phylactery, the group fled to the Shadowfell where his party would stand out in the crowds. River is used to hiding who he is, so his Shadowfell clothing reflects both ease of movement and the ability to easily hide his identity.
