Description
Once I had to participate in a art-event contest, the meaning of which was to recreate some user in the arts in Splatoon appearance and it had to be an ODST character. Gritting my teeth about his inflated ego, I started working on this poster, hoping to get a prize in the form of Discord Nitro. In order to please this person and for sure get a reward, I had to find out about the topic he asked and, it appears, fond of. I never played Halo, so I had no idea what is ODST. I looked at his pfp to make a reference to what I'm gonna do. Unfortunately, I found nothing similar in Splatoon clothing stuff, so I had to recreate him as I see him, without any signs of ODST and that Halo stuff (which could decrease my chances).
The idea was to make a cinematic scene, where the character stands in the alley looking up. For that I took Inkopolis map, found this path leading to metro, placed this Inkling and started doing magic.
The idea of cold raining alley came up to me with look of purple inkling as his pfp of that user. It appeared purple matches perfectly with blue, so I had to improvise. Neo Noir style was the right choice for this combination of colors. The alley was lighted with purple color and blue light beats through the glass, that makes a perfect looking mix of colors, which also drew the outline of the character.
For the dramatic effect, I used Workshop rain particles and I had to make the character look wet. It wasn't an easy task. The values had to be written for each model, so I had to "phong" everything characters wears. The armor, it's its small individual parts with it's values and textures, his backpack, his skin, eyelids, hair.
In the end this masterpiece was created. Despite the amount of time I spend for the contest it appeared the art-event was cancelled due to it's organizer and the main character of this whole poster has to take time from Discord for his mental state or something, meaning there won't be any reward and the whole work was for nothing but for collection of works.
