EDIT:NESS AND LUCAS ARE ALMOST USELESS IN COMPETITIVE PLAY THANKS TO A BAD ANIMATION IN THEIR GRAB RELEASE. IF YOU GRAB A CHARACTER IN BRAWL AND CONTINUOUSLY USE A PUMMEL ATTACK, IT FORCES YOUR OPPONENT TO BREAK OUT IN FRONT OF YOU. NESS AND LUCAS HAVE AN ABNORMALLY LONG BREAK OUT ANIMATION, MEANING THAT MANY CHARACTERS CAN SIMPLY RUN AND GRAB THEM AGAIN BEFORE THEY'RE ABLE TO MOVE, MEANING THAT ALMOST ANY CHARACTER CAN INFINITE THEM TO DEATH. GOOD ONE, SAKURAI.

Just a quick Ness/Lucas loop that I'm using for a banner over at smashboards.com.
I'm importing my Brawl, by the way, or at least when I can figure out the best and safest way to mod my Wii.
I find it interesting that both Ness AND Lucas have the ability to reflect projectiles with their Fsmash attacks, even though Lucas's Fsmash is a stick and not a baseball bat.
Sadly, the "Kachii!" sound when Ness hits a homerun with his bat has been taken out and replaced with a generic "Clack!".
I don't know if Lucas gets it either, since his stick seems to make a sort of "Thwock!" sound when it hits.Clackthwockclackthwockclackthwock, etc.
I may possibly do more of these for other characters.

Actually I disagree with your statement, I'm always online in brawl matches and I use Lucas and Ness and always win, Never have I lost a match online using them. They are good characters to use and can do a lot of damage. Especially Lucas' Up A smash.

Even so, the fact that Ness and Lucas have to be like 9-10, and aren't attractive humanoid characters so much as goofy looking cartoons makes no excuse for the rationg of the game.
Besides, teenages are still childeren. They're just on their way to adulthood.

YOUR EDIT IS INCORRECT. Any character can jump-escape from a grab if you rapidly press X while escaping. It's really easy.

That's incorrect. You can't jump escape while in hitstun from being grab attacked, you can only break out in front.
Since Marth's grab attacks come out faster than it takes for the hitstun to wear off, he can lock you into breaking out only with a frontal escape.

... I repeat, It's possible to break out of the grabs before 60% damage. Ryanide, please don't switch mains... Simna will be saaaaad.

I've been maining Lucario for AGES now.
And it may be escapable, but it's not humanly escapable. You can't trigger it and you have to rely entirely on luck.

You need to use DI, but you're correct. It is good game at high percentages. I once, however, triggered a footstool onto Marth when escaping the chaingrab- I made him flinch and could follow up with a downair... I have absolutely no idea how I managed to pull it off, maybe you could look into it?

...Damn. Well, that's assuming that the chaingrab is timed correctly, and trying it out, it's pretty difficult to pull off infinitely. Plus, it's only Marth, right? If not...ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH.

Only Marth and charizard from what I know, but other characters can still get free attacks off the grab release, even if they can't infinite.
Snake gettin a free Ftilt off every time he grabs you is nothing to sneeze at.

Dude, the grab thing only works with THREE characters (Marth, Squirtle and Charizard) and even then you can get out by shield-dodging.
Jeez.

You can't shield dodge against Marth, Squirtle and Charizard as Ness. You can't shield dodge against Marth as Lucas.
What's more, Bowser can do the next thing from an inifinite on both Ness and Lucas due to how low the slide time on his running grabs are.
There are also many characters who can hit you with powerful smash attacks and other KO moves as you break out from the attack, which makes Ness and Lucas a lot more fragile.
The fact that even one character has an infinite on them pretty much means that you can't lead with them in tournaments, because Marth is so popular.
But yeah, it's not as bad as originally thought.

I heard that, and saw in a video that it is possible to break from Marth's (and others) *infinite* grab... Don't ask me how(I haven't got brawl and I can't try it out), but i'll try to find that video again for your sake. It's on Youtube, and it's posted as a reply to the Infinite Grab thing in a match...

But Lucas has awesome hair and actual character development.
Ness is just a kick-ass robot with a baseball bat and eye-lasers who doesn't afraid of anything and defeats evil using Christian magic.
