Description Today is a bright day for new beginnings, but it's also a sad day. It's a bright day because I bought new computer parts from Newegg and I officially built my brand new computer! It has the latest technology and it will serve me wonders for all my needs!

But today is also a very sad day. Today, I say goodbye to my old computer which I got for Christmas of 2002 after my previous computer died (which I had since Spring of '96 and died in the Autumn of 2002). In 2002, the new computer I got was a DELL Dimension 4550. It had the latest hardware at the time and I was happy with it.

My 4550 went through a lot of makeovers over the years. I changed its graphics card three times, got a new hard drive which was upgraded from an XP 32-bit to a 7 32-bit, a FireWire card, upgraded to a DVD drive to compensate for "Splinter Cell Chaos Theory" as well as getting new hardware, such as newer speakers, a laser-mouse, and an HP PSC 2110 scanner. It also went through a dial-up modem to a Comcast cable modem, to a Verizon DSL modem, and then back to Comcast cable.

But today's the day I put it out of its misery. It's dying, it's slow, and the hardware isn't compatible with newer technology anymore. I went through many years with this. I took my classes with the Art Institutes on it, as well as trying to be a medical transcriptionist at CareerStep (which I regret taking) and not to mention the many games I played on it. However, the later games out there wont run on the computer anymore because it's old. It's time to finally say goodbye.

This deviation you see is my LAST picture I will upload onto deviantART via my old computer.

DELL Dimension 4550, you were activated on December 25th, 2002 and you will be closed down March 21st, 2015. You served me well for 4,469 days but now it's time for you to see that big computer store in the sky. I'll miss you, old buddy.

Good-bye, old friend.

A computer that has endured so much deserves an award. I got mine from 2009 (although I think I had two more years of use before), but the difference to yours is that I did not easily adapt him aside from other things that had factory. The only two things I could buy were the DVD and a hard disk when it is damaged. As in your image, the monitor is of such great. I could not even play good games I downloaded as incompatible. The OpenGL ES 1.2, for them not let me play. All I could install, but not running (even I restarted the computer, apareciéndome Blue screen). Hopefully, I can buy a new one (with help from my family) in the coming months.
Although feel happy soon have a computer that does not madden me when frozen, or put too slow if I open more than one tab in Google Chrome, I feel a sadness to no longer use that PC. Because, after all, it was what gave us great moments. Those moments when one will ever forget.

I remember when we were having our best times together when you were on that PC. We had our first voice chat on it, brief as it was, on my end for some reason. I helped you through some difficult times through it. But now... *pats PC* We have to look ahead for what's going on now while keeping what good we had going from it with us. *stood and is pouring a bottle of Bawls away from the PC* Where it's going, it'll be well-cared for and it'll be having the solace of knowing that it been a real thrill ride serving with you.

WOW 13 years is a good lie span or a PC, you certainly got your money's worth from it in the end.

ah yes, I know this feeling.  I've had my new computer for a couple years now, but when I got it I was excited (yaaay I can play Minecraft again without lag! And do art without lag!  And browse the internet without lag!  And not have to constantly have the Task Manager open to monitor what is using up all my CPU! Etc.)  Also I now have a laptop as well.  (I can actually take a computer WITH me when I need to go somewhere!  And I can actually draw ON the screen with it!)  I've never had two computers (of aproximately the same age) at the same time before.  Not that I use the laptop as often as I should, but...I'm kind of afraid I'm going to break it. XD;

But...I still kept my old computer...as it's the only one that still can play certain DOS games (and Spore...the new one probably could play that, but...I'm afraid of it not being able to install because of the stupid anti-pirating measures the company put in the software making it so it can only be installed a certain number of times, even if it's a legit copy of the game like mine is) that I love.  (Not that I really use it much anymore...even for that...no room in my room for 2 active full-size computers)
