Description
What a journey it has been.
And the end is not in sight.
But the stars are out tonight,
And they're bound to guide my way.
When they're shining on my life,
I can see a better day.
I won't let the darkness in.
What a journey it has been.
-Lea Salonga
After watching the series finale of Steven Universe, I felt pretty emotional knowing that another cartoon I've been keeping track of for a long time has ended. Seeing both Beach City and Homeworld at peace and Steven moving forward was very heartwarming. Because of that, I decided to draw Steven up in the clouds along with Mordecai (Regular Show) and Mikey (TMNT 2012). I think you know what symbolism is present here.
However, like Steven, we should also look forward to the future. While it's for certain that most great cartoons that started in the early 2010s have come to an end, that doesn't mean good cartoons are a bust now. In fact, cartoons that started in the late 2010s such as Ducktales 2017, Hilda, Amphibia, and Green Eggs and Ham, can be considered the new generation of cartoons, and since they've gone off to a good start, filling up the big shoes of the previous generation will not be a problem.
Even though the series has ended, we can still learn a thing or two from Steven. Goodbye, Steven Universe. And good luck to Rebecca Sugar in her future endeavors.
P.S. I was really relieved when Pumpkin was seen alive but already elderly.
