Found at the American Museum of Natural History. This is one of the earliest species of the genus, Equus, which includes horses of today. This species lived a wide range throughout North America. Its closest living relative was, however, surprisingly the Grevy's zebra (a species that's restricted to the arid steppe and bushland of Ethiopia and Somalia.
