The AI that Charu is talking about would qualify as an AGI "Artificial General Intelligence" Basically what people think of as a classical "AI" concept. AIs are not considered "Sentient Beings" in the comic universe. There are rules about behaviors. Compute storage/power has kept following Moore's Law. However, the file Storage Requirements of an AI like that is "Large". I won't put out a size, just state that it isn't something you download in seconds... Hence the 8 hour transfer time mentioned at the end of Ch2. This is also Nearish-Future now, no earlier than the year 2400-2500. With the intent that the "Day of the Sacred Seventeen" happens as early as the 2080s.

"But the Gym looked modern." Yes, it does. Look at what the media of 1980-era had envisioned for "2020" and look at what actually happened. The future changes, but not -EVERYTHING- is Super Futuristic.

Fusion is still "10-20 years away" as always.

So presume that this is 400-500 years in the future.

Doc Cathy is not explicitly given an age. It is presumed she's 400+ years old, but is physically in her 40s. Most adults will "settle" body shape wise, naturally into the 20-40 age range visually. Cosmetically they can appear whatever age they want.

Charu and Meg are around 20 years old here. Entrance pre-requisite is two years "college" undergrad minimum. (* as we'll find out later, there is exceptions, but there will never be a character in this comic that is underage. Not that there's Naughty...)
