Oh,I think I know what the model for the dragon was. At least it looks a lot like the Ljubljana town (capital of Slovenia) crest dragon. Look it up

just a few things required
1 photoshop (or other good photo / art program)
2 imagination
3 good stock images
4 pleanty of time to play
those are all you need
