Description One of my ceramics pieces. Stoneware clay and underglaze fired at Cone 01. I'd like this to be one in a series of three, with a theme of how we interact with our world and the evolution of self. The other two would be "Way of the Horns" and "Way of the Fist".
This guy is representative of enlightenment, spiritual clarity, etc, with its open palm head, meditative pose and laced-fingered "ribcage", meant to show restraint and unity. Its surrounded by small hagstones (also known as adder stones, witch stones and lots of other things). In mythology they are an item of healing and protection, and if you look through the center, you will be able to see through the tricks of ill meaning spirits.
I chose hands as my motif because I feel they are the primary way that we interact physically with the world, how we control and influence things around us and all that jazz.

I've noticed that in my sculptural work I'm more likely to be more "artsy" and will actually be symbolic or ~**~~meaningful~~** in my work, but in my illustrative stuff it's mostly robots and aliens smacking each other on the butts.

Beautiful, Sal! Love how natural it is and how toned it looks. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful! This looks like it could be an actual religious icon! I admire the intricate detail and textures, especially on the base and the back of the hand.

I wish my ceramics work could be that good HERP DERP.
