Description
A mongoose standing above its burrow (bottom right) in Kruger National Park, South Africa. While they look cute, they are vicious little animals with large teeth. My reference book (a well worn copy of Smithers Mammals of Southern Africa, circa ~2000), says that mongoose classification isnt an exact science yet.
The closest match in our book is "Dwarf Mongoose". This one lived out in the park and seemed to have a burrow/lookout point a little way back from the road.
The focus could perhaps be better but unfortunately my camera isnt that fast autofocus and i'd rather have an non-perfect interesting/cute photo than perfect picture of some grass
