Gorgeous! The architecture is beautiful on its own, but the two giant angel statues make it spectacular. The water is wonderfully painted as well, with great use of colour. I really love everything in this painting, it is so beautiful. Congrats on the DD!

.. simply.. wow... it looks awesome!! love the huge statues, the bridge, the ship, the water and... the angle
really cool :3
... though i'm kinda wondering if the perspective is completely right... the sealevel looks a little strange to me like... uhm... a little bent... is that wanted to achive the effect of a panorama?

samburley In reply to NekoHimeAnny [2011-02-19 14:54:53 +0000 UTC]

You're absolutely right. It's good that you picked up on it. In some areas (like the bridge especially) it follows a path closer to curvilinear perspective rather than linear. The horizon is also slightly arced, and the buildings have a vanishing point tighter than it would naturally be.

I really enjoy warping the perspective, but it more often than not it just makes things look awkward and BAD! But when it does work I think it enhances the effect of size and depth.

heh, so it really wasn't only my vision being off *glad about that*
well, when warping one sure needs a lot of practise i think - and it gives a cool effect nevertheless - just when looking closer this piece looks a little off.
I haven't tried it yet... >.>

It makes a good excuse for when I'm too bored to lay out the perspective properly too

"What.. it's off? Oh no, no, no. I'm not lazy, you see, it's SUPPOSED to be like that."

NekoHimeAnny In reply to samburley [2011-02-26 11:40:37 +0000 UTC]

lol xD I'd rather excuse it with "what... it's off? aaah.... you see I'm still working on it!"
