Awesome! Have you considered making a mold of this and selling them as blanks for people to paint?

Thank you very much!
Sadly, due to all the indivdual layers of hair it would be downright impossible to make a mold.
The body would probably have been, but because of the added LED's there was never any chance of making a mold of the completed body

Awww. Well, even a partial mold might save you time if you want to make a lot more of them.

Thanks!
I'm not so sure it would make the most practical lamp, but it does a pretty good job lighting up my room at night

OK, that is freaking cool!.
Seriusly one of the most unique customs i've seen so for, pony or otherwise. The overall execution is near flawless and the effect is stuning. You should be very proud of yourself for such a beautiful piece.
I would love to know how you sculpted the mane and tail with such intricate detail.

Thank you very much for the compliments!
I've been admiring your work for quite some time, and hearing this really means a lot ^^
For the hair, I basically rolled out thin pieces of ProCreate and flattened them out, used a piece of bent wire to make the texture, and a hobby knife to split the hairs in some places to make it look less chunky.
I the added them to the figure layer by layer until it looked ok.
The tail "core" is made out of Sculpey with hair pieces added on top.
Hope that made any sense.
I will most likely not use this technique again as it was soo time consuming. Not to mention getting the paint into every nook and cranny

SAME! THAT'S AMAZING!!
I'm about to paint a figure I've made, but I'm too scared of messing it up so I haven't started yet
I don't know how you can say stuff like that and then turn up with results like this! Everything looks really smooth and well done... the paint coverage, the model proportions, even her cutie mark and hair!
The LED work for her eyes and horn is a touch of genius. It literally looks like it came straight out of the show.
Mark my words, this will end up at EQD, or I'm going to eat my modeling visor.

Thank you!
I'm very happy you like it ^^
Of course I can say that, because it's true!
Painting this took me forever.
Just the cutie marks literary took an hour, each.
But I have to say I'm happy with the result.
Everything I make has something to do with LEDs, that's it
It was quite a challenge to get everything to fit inside the head

ColonelYeo In reply to SameAsUsual [2012-08-17 22:26:51 +0000 UTC]
You're very welcome, my friend.
you should be happy with those results. I can thoroughly believe how challenging it must have been to get the lighting into the head. That was actually my very first thought while studying it. Since I couldn't see any wires around the clear rod holding Twilight up, You had me wondering where the power was coming from.

SameAsUsual In reply to ColonelYeo [2012-08-18 13:25:22 +0000 UTC]
There are actually two tiny wires running up from the base, but they hide pretty well in the distortion created by the rod.
Made it a whole lot easier
