Description
I used to clean shoes. There was a time when my job was important.
There was a time when I was respected.
There was a time when people walked down the street, waved their hands and said "Good morning SeΓ±or Pedro"
Time has passed.
Now, whenever you have dirty shoes you throw them away and get new ones.
Now, you look at me and wonder if I'm insane, if I know how to write and read.
Now, you think I'm on my way to extinction...
The truth is that you have put me into that state.
*A tribute to those who preserve the old ways.

This is a wonderfly touching, yet sad photo. It is sad to think of the people who depend on the old lifestyle for their income, yet they are left behind to fend for themselves.....
Not sure that made sense, knew what I WANTED to say....but just could't SAY it.
Beautiful.

Very good job with the photograph. This is one of the best I have seen with matching a theme with a photo.

Ah... very nicely done tribute. Certainly deserved the daily fav it got, believe me. While I may not always agree with the whole 'grasping at the old ways' thing, I do admit that today's society led them to be like they are, which is, of course, unforgivable...

Incredible message, something not many people think of much less care for. Good to see an image conveying such a message. The angle you shot this from also makes it appear as if the old man is fading away. A way of life fading away. Thank you for sharing.

Sad picture: seems like the old man is struggling to keep on going with his last inner strength. Or then he's just a bit tired
good shot, good work

me encanta la humildad, la sencillez, y el cansancio de tener que trabajar para poder vivir decentemente.
tambien en la plaza de sahuayo tome una foto de un muchachito que era un shoe shinner y le estaba limpiando los zapatos a otro.

a shoe shiner. . .
Hmm....reminds me of Fred Astaire. He sang about a shoe-shiner.
Yep, they were once respected. Unfortunately, the key word is 'were.'

That's very touching... it's too bad so many people wear sneakers (and dorky looking ones at that). I wear boots, and they are in desperate need of polishing. ^^;
I may not be a photographer, but I know what I like. And I like this. Wonderful piece.

What a beautiful portrait...
My only nitpicky technical suggestion (and I don't know if you like suggestions, but I'll stick my neck out and you can chop it off if you must, hehe) might be to bring him out of the background a bit more. The bright area to the right is slightly distracting as I'm viewing the details of the subject.
But really, you've done a wonderful job capturing the emotion here once again.
