Description "If you can be *anything*, then what are you at your core?"
"My core?"
"Yeah, your true form?"
"Oh..." The shifter was quiet for a moment, then laughed a little. "I'm not sure I have one. I'm just a pile of sentient goop! Like a caterpillar in a cocoon!"
"What? No, that can't be right. If you don't have a form then what kind of family do you have? You must come from somewhere, you must have a people!"
He shrugged.
"Well... Who do you hang out with?"
"Whoever is around I guess. I can fit in just about everywhere..."
"But?"
He looked down an fidgeted with his pen. "But... Um... You see... I can fit everywhere, but I don't belong anywhere."
"Oh?"
He shrugged again. His voice started happy and aloof, then slowly broke down. "Serpents don't have time for humans, and humans are afraid of dragons, and dragons can't speak serpent. I'm to fluid to settle on a form, but no one seems to be okay with my shifting." He threw up his hands. "I don't know, it's... It's hard to keep friendships alive I guess..."

"Oh..." Good gods, she hadn't expected deep feelings from the sentient goop. "Well, you know I don't mind if you're not feeling like a human."

He still seemed guarded, but his voice perked up. "What if I'm feeling like a dragon?"
"Go ahaid, I like dragon you."
