Description
This is the GP01 (Zephyranthes) from the Gundam 0083: Stardust Memories OVA series. This is actually my favorite Gundam pretty much ever. Basically the same as the original Gundam with a sleeker body and upgraded technology. Not much on frills and firepower. For references on this 3d mesh I used the GFF mostly. This is easily seen in areas like the lower leg, the back of the hand, the feet and the shoulder verniers where it doesn't match the MG version at all. Also in the rear of the waist where there exists a weapons carrier (like for the GM Command). Although the original design is by Shoji Kawamori, the MG and GFF were conceptualized by Hajime Katoki. However, Katoki's influence in the concept (in the MG manual) isn't recreated faithfully in the MG kit as it is in the GFF figure and so I went with mostly the latter in the end... though the MG was a great help. Finally, the weapon being held by the GP01 at the moment is the XBR-L-83d Beam Rifle used by the GP01 in the PS2 game "Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space".
Couple of errors that I don't have time to fix as I have to go to Sendai for the weekend: There was to be a dust effect on the ground, but the CPU was actually going into it's 40th hour of rendering so I cut it off since there's a blizzard due to hit soon, the beam sabers in the back shouldn't go into the upper body the way they are above and the right leg cuff is disappearing into the ankle. Very strange....
Anyway
Software: Lightwave3D (modelling, rendering), Hexagon (some UV's), Freehand (logos), Photoshop (post).
and...
Gundam is (c) Bandai/Sunrise/Sotsu Agency
Have a good weekend!

SWEET! Love the perspective on this one. I was combing the picture to look for that magical disappearing cuff you mentioned, but it really doesn't detract from the image at all. You really should take a minute (if you ever have another) and put the dust in like you wanted. It would have been the icing on this cake! Still a very cool pic and excellent render!

I'll have to figure out a way to pull it off without the rendertime jumping up so high. So that's out for now... I wanted that dust though.

I'm taking 3d in college and we're using lightwave. Our current assignment is robots. Do you have any tutorials? Thanks

No tutes... I'm not good at explaining stuff like this. Pretty much everything I've learned was trial and error, though rigging and IK'ing I read about in Inside Lightwave books by Dan Ablan. You might check out [link] for tutes on that.

sandrum In reply to Angered-Icon [2006-12-04 04:21:22 +0000 UTC]
Actually, I thought my progress on this one was relatively slow. A couple of weeks modelling and quite a few days on surfacing... seems a bit slow (I got lazy in the middle of it).

Geeky note: The long beam rifle's only used by the GP01FB, but I think it looks cooler, so I'll let you off. It's looking sweet. ^_^

Wow that sucks. Hm.. wierder since the GFF came with this gun in the package (with no FB option).

GlauG In reply to sandrum [2006-12-04 07:59:53 +0000 UTC]
That's really weird... since the GP01FB would be a natural thing for the GP01 to be convertible into like most of the rest of the FIX toys do... Though having looked it up, I don't think GP01 ever uses the bazooka the FIX figure comes with either.
