Hey y'all!This is more or less how these guys, and April, are going to look on the new mini-series I'm writing and will be drawing for IDW's TMNT.
Nickelodeon asked for subtle changes but no big deal so, the changes will show up on next studies or directly in the books.
Originally I wanted to make them even smaller compared to humans and with more contrastant heights between themselves (I may post these studies later). But you can't win them all, and I'm happy with the consensus we got to.
I've been trying new stuff for a while now (new for me - how I used to draw them), mixing elements I like of other people's turtles.
My main influences came from Ross and Dan Duncan , but I admit I really dug the new Nickelodeon's animated series so, a little bit comes from there too.
Also there's my own personal touch that goes back to a rough sketch I did years ago.
"The Secret History of The Foot Clan"
is set for late 2012 with story created by me
and co-script by me and Erik Burnham.
I'm really excited about this and every now and then I'll be posting new stuff here so you can check it out.

Its nice to see the turtle's height and mass drawn in a way that a lot of the 2k3 fans (normally female) have been doing for years. I love how slim and small Mikey is- and his short bandana. And thats probably one of the best Apirl's I've seen in a long time. Not too sure about how thick Raph's neck is though...
All in all this is an amazing job.

I don't think I ever saw a fan art of 2k3 in this fashion,
but still this is a concept that is knocking my head for quite sometime now,
and apparently not only in my head 
I do particulary like Ralph stocky and compact. But actually Nick agrees with you
and I'll have to slightly trim him down a bit.

Well, there's certain rules that 2k3 (mostly female) fans seem to follow. Like; Mikey's the smallest; Leo's never the tallest and Raph's the biggest. Whether Donnie or Raph is the tallest is normally up to debate. Then Mikey must have baby blue eyes; Donnie has deep or chocolate brown eyes and Raph has normally Golden eyes (or red). Leo's veiry from artist to artist but its normally black, brown or silver.
Yes, Raph should definitely be stocky but not overly. I find a lot of fans who (although I hate gernalising) are normally male draw the turtles so muscly they wouldnt be able to move. They are Ninja and need to be able to move quickly and quietly more than they need to have massive amounts of strength. They are not wrestlers or Superman style superheros (although I think Raph would love to be a wrestler XD)
Hopefully you don't have to change anything about April- she's perfect. Makes me wanna draw her and I've never wanted to before XD

And now that you described it, I did saw lots of fan art with this characteristics, although I never notice any height difference.
As for Ralph, I like to think of him as the Wolverine of TMNT - bad temper, stocky and shorty, but also agile, fast and lethal. Other than him I agree with your thoughts of them being more ninja and less bodybuilders.

Yeah, Raph is definitely the Wolverine of TMNT. He even holds his sai like claws. And I do say Raph should always be bigger than the others. However it can be taken too far. I once saw a comic where Raph was twice the size of a New York man hole over. It looked so stupid I just burst out laughing XD
I think the amount of muscle you've done is perfect other than the neck. Make the neck thinner than it really will be perfect.

dude. this is AMAZING. i cannot wait for your mini, so exciting!!! these are some of the best Turtles and April i've seen in a while, and it's an honor to be named as an influence on this!! thanks! i totally know what you mean about the heights, i loved in the old Mirage comics when the Turtles were about 5' tall. i ran into a disagreement or two with Nickelodeon over the heights, too.
right now i'm working on a character height line-up like this for my TMNT fan-comic, i'll try to post it soon!! it's super loose and it's nowhere near as cool as yours, though.

to have shorter turtles - even if not as shorty as we would like to - I had your Leo's micro as
a reference of how far I could go

5 feet tall is a good place to shoot for with Turtle heights in my opinion, so i think your Turtles look just right!

I totally approve. You even sound a bit like Ross talking about their heights, haha. He was always pushing for them to be shorter. Also, the most banging April ever put to paper.

Ha! That's the problem when you mix "passion" with "work".

The answer is fine tuning, patience and meditation 
And yeah, April need to have the right amount of hotness without being slutty.
