Another one I did for absolutely no reason, other than it came to me at some point, during some meeting or other, and I decided to go with it. This is Fakir and Mytho, drawn in my own style. They look much better in the anime, but I had fun doing this anyway ^__^Related content

so I'm not the only one? I'm struggling with finding the style that fits best for my personal manga.
But it's too hard. I don't want it to look like any regular anime style, I want it to be a cross of both east and west style. unfortunately after watching loads of disney movies, cartoons, and anime, it really affects the way I draw. That and I've recently finished a life drawing class this semester. And those techniques are even bogging down on me. do you think life drawing and cartoons are separate?

I really think every artist struggles with it at one point or another. But I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with watching anime/cartoons/etc. and being influenced by it. Every artist is influenced by something! I, myself, am highly influenced by Disney and anime, as well as the old Dutch masters, among other things.
And as for life-drawing vs. cartoons, I think it's of the utmost importance to get a solid foundation in life-drawing, because even cartoons- good cartoons- start with the basics. I mean, take any of the classic Disney movies. Bambi, for instance- the animals are cartoons, yes, but as you watch them, the way they move, the proportions... you can almost feel the muscle and bone under Bambi's pelt. And he's a drawing! Cartoons are based directly on life, but as a simplification of something real. The real genius comes in what the artist chooses to leave in, and how to represent real life in the simplest way possible. If that makes any sense...

im stil strangling with get detail with hair. any tips or practices that you can give?

Honestly? I'm not sure... I mean, I guess if you start out treating hair as a series of simple shapes, just like the human body. Then, you go back in and add the detail, like lighting and shadow.
