also why not get a better idea of the whole possession thing since I basically have two chapters with it in different stages in Fading Light
eyes have meaning (cause they be the gateway of the soul) so when in his shadow form (when his eyes are red) Shatterednight is resisting or maybe has control over his own eye, when his eye is orange he has no control (or in the case with Crystal control was leaving him and was actually aware of what was going on)

reminder Shatterednight is the largest living cat, Duke is somewhere between Ace and Dustin's height which means while big not the biggest cat out there so When Duke is control he is either slouching or standing high meanwhile Shatterednight won't hold his head higher than necessary and tends to stand in a way where his paws are more forward and back to make himself look smaller (long) unless purposefully trying to be imitating
which goes to say Duke is power hungry and views himself above others (and is 100% a creep when it comes to molly's and has no problem crossing lines)
