I came downstairs to lunch one day at school and my friend was just sitting at the table looking very depressed...the expression on his face was perfect...so I took a picture of it.p.s.-sorrow about the black blotch on there...I think it's sharpie and I never got around to making another print of this one.

it reminds me of my mates [shiro-hagen.deviantart.com]picture of the guy looking at his guinness pint waiting for it to settle...like the whole world revolves around it. Here, daydreams encompass the guys mind...

I think it embodies the high-school experience very well. The lunch room setting with the bustling kids in the background contrasts with the solitude and motionlessness of the boy, and amplifies his isolation. Another thing I like about it is that it captures the melancholy emotion without being too histrionic, obnoxious and self-absorbed; I see that in a lot of other self-portrait photos of pouting, angsty teens. It has a kind of innocence sweetness which lets me identify and sympathize with the subject.
