)I actually, which is strongly against my gay-shipping nature, really like the Frollo x Esmeralda ship... So much that I actually draw it! XD
Esmeralda is trying to teach Frollo empathy towards other live beings. Starting off small, with a baby bird... she shall move to the Gypsies much, much later, when he's ready to NOT immidiately try and brutally rip their throats out...
Even Djali looks so eager to take part in this!

I ship Fresme with all my heart and soul! Write fiction on them and everything. I love the dynamic between them. The balance of light and dark is so yin and yang.
This is really sweet and adorable.
Although, I always saw Frollo more close to animals, rather than people. He gave it away clearly once he mentioned he didn't want Snowball to be hurt. In a way I think he sees the human world as cruel and not just the gypsy population, but the whole of the world. Maybe because his own experiences with people were so disappointing? Maybe a past heartache made him push all others away in the end?
That's just how I feel anyway.

And it seems we think kinda alike, then. Although I don't exactly think he CARES much about just all animals in the world. As for Snowball, yeah, he definitely cares for his horse in a way he's capable of. I wouldn't call it true LOVE in the way, let's say, some animal lovers treat their pets, but definitely affection of a sort.
And all of this description about what if about him reminds me all too painfully of myself, lol.Β
To sum things up - imo while he hates at least Gypsies - if not most of all people - he's kind of neutral to animals, to some at least. Remember he did crush those ants while explaining things to Phoebus... But then again I'm a huge animal lover - going as far as freaking out, worried for abandoned baby ducks and waiting for an hour for their mom to return - I still mercilessly crush mosquitos and ants invading my house XD
I think Esme just wants to start off small - with animals that Frollo at least DOESN'T MIND having around... to then move to people

But yea, I was once so full of optimism and leadership and all (led a band of kids from the neighbourhood when I was 4-6, lololol), but, sadly, people ruined me. I'm now a bitter ghost of what I was two decades ago XP I'm antisocial as FUCK 99,9% of the time and I even hate going shopping where there's many people.
Frollo kinda seems the same, as he despises going into crowds of common folks... I, actually, have a truly heartbreaking headcanon about why he's like this and why he hates Gypsies, can't remember if I told you about it, or not. But it will eventually be revealed in the comic... I wonder how many people will cry...

I was ruined at age 7. I never was a leader like Frollo though. I was always a soft spoken kid. I was bullied by my classmates as will as my teachers all through school. Didn't have a good start.
Really? I'm very intrigued now! I most definitely will cry. Anything sad that has to do with Frollo makes me cry. I've been writing a fanfic about his childhood and his relationship with Esmeralda. It's called Manual Stigmata. There were moments in some chapters that I cried writing them.
But I'm so happy you're continuing the comic. I love it so much! You were the first person to get me into Frollo/Phoebus slash.

Oh, yes, and I was a well behaved, quiet kid, too, most of the time, don't think I was a badass Tarzan of the city or something.
We just lived in a really decent neighbourhood where kids were simply well behaved as well. I'd never settle down well among a bunch of assholes XP
And yes, school and children bullying me both mentally AND physically - 17 YEARS later I STILL have scars on my hands! (what with the huge scar on Claude's back if you remember it back in some of the first pages), and well, mental scars are far worse. I take inspiration for many scarred characters from myself actually, because hell, why not! The whole 'he was bad to the core just because he was bad and full of sin' or 'he deserved it all because he was bad and born bad' is BULLSHIT, imo. Monsters are very, VERY rarely born. Monsters are MADE. Sure, there are quite a few born abominations (which you mostly notice already when they're kids, not too long ago watched a vid about 4 years old wanting to stab a dog in the eye with a pencil, as would Frollo probably say - kill that fucking abomination with holy fire and melt the ashes with holy water before it grows up and breeds...) but in, I shall boldly sa, 99,5% of the cases, it's something wrong going with the person's life.
Like with me, I really only have most of my empathy left for animals, and even then, not for all of them. I still care for some nice people but... no, simply not enough to call it even average.
Anyways, I don't believe Frollo was born a monster they saw him as. I'm pretty certain he was made this way... most likely by THE GYPSIES. Or it's simply highly possible.
